If your parts have been wrapped for shipping,
unpack them as soon as you get them home. This will help prevent
any "imprinting" that the packaging may leave. DON'T wipe dust off your bike. If it is really
dusty, give it a good wash with a good car wash soap.
If it is only slightly dusty, use a spray detailer. Never use paper towels to wipe your paint,
always use a good microfiber cloth or soft cotton or flannel. Make sure you remove bug guts, tree resin
and bird droppings from your paint as soon as possible. These are
acidic and can leave "pinholes" in your paint. Use very
warm water and a good car wash soap. If you find that after many washes you have
hairline 'cobweb' scratches, use D & B System One Polish either
by hand or with a polisher to remove them. Then apply a good coat
of D & B System One Wax. (Available in individual bottles or
in kits.) Wait about 4 weeks before you wax your paint.
Paint takes a while to thoroughly cure. If it is waxed too soon,
as it out-gases, the gases will be trapped under the wax and it
will lose some of its shine. We try to mask off or put bolts into any
area where bolts will be applied, however, if it was not possible,
make sure to "tap" any threaded holes. If there is paint build-up in any holes,
do not force bolts through, either call us, or use a small file
to remove excess paint from hole. We use the highest quality paints available,
however, DO NOT leave spilled gas on your paint, just wipe it up
and you're fine For those of you with Aluminum tanks, custom
or stretched tanks, keep an eye on the bung/petcock area, if your
paint lifts, apply some clear nail polish or call us immediately. We apply a sealant around your filler cap
area to ensure that no gas vapors lift the paint, however, if this
happens, contact us immediately to prevent further damage. It is
impossible to prevent this in all cases. If you have a custom inset push-in cap, make
sure you twist as you pull it out, otherwise, the gaskets can tear
the paint at the filler hole. Bike covers are not recommended, however
if you must use one, make sure it is breathable and you have made
sure that the cover does not rest on the paint. Condensation can
become trapped between the cover and the paint surface and it can
cause "pinholes" or bubbles in your paint. Although we blow out your tank, and mask
all holes, we recommend you run some fuel or methyl hydrate through
the tank to rinse and to eliminate any impurities that may have
gotten in it, or that may have been left in it that were trapped
by the fuel filter. ENJOY
